In part with help from national grants, as well as a grant from the New York County District Attorney’s office, Nevada will clear its backlog of sex assault DNA kits. Nevada currently has over 7,000 backlogged sex assault DNA tests from sexual assaults committed over the span of 30 years. It is anticipated that all of the tests will be completed within three years. It is thought that clearing the backlog may spark a discussion about legislation that will dictate how the state proceeds after taking a DNA kit from a victim.
